Author, worldbuilder & narrative designer

I’m Romall H. Smith II. I write science fantasy and build worlds for fiction, comics, cards, and games. I love the scale of a universe, but the part that keeps me writing is usually smaller: someone trying to get home, protect their family, or make a choice they can live with.

I want a story to give you more than something to look at. I want you to hear the room, smell the air, feel the cost of a decision, and care about the people making it.

One creator, more than one universe

My work includes published fiction and comics, and I’m a lead designer and narrative designer for Wonders of the First. I’m also a Wonders proof holder. My independent projects include two separate games, Hanger 42 and Crew Arena, and my novel project, The Stoneseeker Chronicles. Each has its own place here, with my role clearly credited.

Alternate Universe 42—AU42—is my publishing home. This site is where you can find me: my portfolio, the worlds I work in, and the thoughts behind what I make.

How I work

I write my stories. I also use AI as a tool and a working partner to help develop ideas, organize the work, and bring projects into forms I couldn’t make alone. Writing is the part I love. The choices, the voice, and the responsibility for what I put into the world are mine.
